Daybreak
The first rays of the rising sun seem to set the wall of our bedroom beach house afire. You can hear the waves gently breaking as they overcome the low-tide line, although the surf will not be too big today, as it never is on those still August mornings. In anticipation of the day’s heat the fan keeps the air moving. Soon I too will move from bed and prepare Hukwa tea, which Kathy and I will drink as the sun slowly makes its way across the sky, turning the rosey orange of golden hour white and shrinking dawn’s long shadows.
