Contemporary Realism ~ celebrating the every day with oil and canvas

William B Hoyt

About William Hoyt

What first drew me to art was detail. As a boy, whenever I picked up a pencil, I wanted to get every line, every mark, just right. Years later I had the good fortune to study with Dick Grosvenor. I still remember standing with him in front of Andrew Wyeth’s Winter Corn—those bleached, brittle leaves rendered with such clarity. That moment hooked me.

Since then, each time I’ve lifted a brush I’ve carried that pursuit forward. Over decades I’ve built a kind of intimacy with mediums, textures, colors, and tools—an ongoing conversation between hand, eye, and subject.

What I seek is not perfection, but presence.

Through detail I try to honor the ordinary and the extraordinary alike: a landscape, a face, a fleeting moment of light.
