Keira Knightly and Scarlet Johansson arrived on a winter day on the cover of Vanity Fair and I could not resist celebrating their perfect ripeness in a kitchen still life that juxtaposed the perfect ripeness of the pomegranates. Pomegranates fit the theme as well. The title comes from a quote of William Butler Yeats, “I knew a phoenix in my youth, so let them have their day.” A sobering thought as we grow older.
